Botox Q & A

What is Botox?

Botox is a drug that’s used as a cosmetic enhancer to get rid of unwanted signs of aging, like wrinkles. It’s actually made from the bacteria Clostridium botulinum, which is the same bacteria that causes botulism.

Botox, however, is used in much smaller doses to achieve the desired effect, without the dangerous aspect of the bacteria.

This drug works on your muscles, either paralyzing them temporarily or making them weak so they can’t contract. Botox may also be used to block nerve impulses to certain areas as well to achieve a desired result.

When the muscle injected with Botox is unable to contract, it relaxes. When the muscle relaxes, your skin also relaxes, getting rid of unwanted signs that make you look older.

What conditions does Botox help?

Botox is traditionally used to give your skin a younger, rejuvenated look as you age. However, Botox is also used to treat certain medical conditions like migraines or extreme sweating.

The main reason for Botox injections is for cosmetic purposes. You may get these injections in your face to get rid of signs of aging, like:

  • Wrinkles or frown lines
  • Crow’s feet
  • Skin creases
  • Lines around your mouth
  • Wrinkles and lines in your neck or chin

These conditions are created from years of facial expressions like smiling or frowning. But with a simple Botox injection, you can rid yourself of these unsightly reminders that you’re getting older.

When will I see the results of Botox?

The providers at HealthStone Primary Care Partners use Botox by injecting it into the area you’d like treated. The medication is injected directly into the muscle or tissue that you want to change.

While the results of Botox aren’t instantaneous, you won’t have to wait long. You should see the effects of Botox within one to three days after your injection.

How long your results last is dependent on a number of different factors, including the area that was injected and how your body metabolizes the Botox. In most cases, though, your results should last anywhere from three months to a year after your injection.

If you’re looking for a way to improve your looks or health with Botox, call the office at HealthStone Primary Care Partners today or book an appointment online.
